Meet Sierra (aptly named after our 300th facebook fan) is not much more then bones and stitches at them moment but the ladies in the vets office say she is a good little eater so I am sure we can get some weight on here. New Beginnings for animals foundation took care of her leg surgery. She will not be spayed for about 3 months because we want to give her system time to heal from the trauma. She seems very sweet and very scared. The stump shakes a lot but she seems to be distributing the weight to her other three legs very well for a new amputee.
Sierra's story: Passers by witnessed a man throw out 4 puppies and a mama dog from his vehicle. Animal Control was able to capture the 4 puppies who were about 6 weeks and went directly to rescue however mama eluded AC for the next couple of weeks.
When the AC officer first spotted Sierra she had 4 healthy uninjured legs. By the time they caught her 2 weeks later she had only three. They did have a sighting of her 2-3 days prior to her capture that had her with only three legs and bleeding so her leg had been amputated while she was on the run and she survived 2-3 DAYS before AC was finally able to catch her. They suspect she was caught in some sort of trap the severed the leg clean off. Had the wound been jagged she would not have had a chance on her own.
New beginnings for animals foundation became involved at that point and had her taken to Dr. McFadden and Valley animal hospital in Merced. Dr. McFadden did a beautiful job fixing up Sierra's leg (as you can see in the pictures), Thank You Dr. McFadden and New Beginnings for animals. Once her surgery was over and she was cleared to leave the pet hosp we happily volunteered to take her in.
