The Iggy litter

1/20/2010 - The little family was moved into "The Palace" today which will be their home for the next couple of months. "The Palace" consists of a kiddie pool, tarp, x-pen, insulation around the x pen and a flannel sheet for a roof.

The puppies are 3 days old now and growing fast. We are trying to get weight on Mama (Emmy) who is really thin and we want her to be able to produce good quality milk for her the babies and still be able to be healthy herself.

The first two days were touch and go with Emmy and her mothering skills. She wanted to be away from the puppies as much as possible and seemed very uninterested in feeding them. Today however she seems to have turned the corner and didnt want to be away from the puppies for more then a minute at a time. She is growing more motherly by the hour. I now have great hope we will not have to begin bottle feeding as we had feared we would have to yesterday. We have formula and bottles ready to go if need be.

Operation Surrogate Mom

On 1/25/10 we placed Gabby with Candy the Terrier mix nursing three of her own babies. Emmy (the Iggy mom) is just really struggling with the demands of 6 puppies so we are supplementing with formula as well as having removed Gabby and placed her permanently with Candy.

Candy is an excellent mom who took right to Gabby and is now making sure that little pup gets all the milk she could possibly need and Larry, Curly & Mo dont seem to mind their new sister.

The chi mix pups are 4 weeks old and the Iggy litter is 3.5! Here they are in all their glory.....
